Mrs. Grace O. Ajogbeje is a confidential secretary by profession and in the Teaching Ministry. She worships with RCCG, Chapel of Liberty, Baruwa Ipaja, Lagos.
Teniola: Good Day Ma’am. My name is Teniola once again and I am from Peculiar Ministers. We thank you for honouring our invite.
Teniola: We will be talking about “Gathering of the Brethren: How to know I am in the right place”.
What do you understand by the Word “Gathering of the brethren”?
Mrs Ajogbeje: Gathering of the brethren is the coming together of people of like mind and believe for the same purpose. And all that believed were together, and had all things common – Acts 2:4.
Teniola: Is this term only associated to christians?
Mrs Ajogbeje: When we talk about brethren, it was the word used by believers to address themselves.
Teniola:Choosing a church can be a challenging decision in today’s society; with so many styles of churches, denomination and different belief systems, it can become overwhelming to choose the right church. Hence, what are the signs to know a true church?
Mrs Ajogbeje: Choosing a Church is a matter of firstly asking, Who am l? Secondly,What do l want? There are reasons for gathering of brethren as stated in Hebrews 10:25,
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching”
Teniola: I am with you ma’am
Mrs Ajogbeje: Who you are will determine what you want which will actually lead you to where you want to be. In other words, your knowledge of God through Christ will by the Power of the Holy Spirit leading you aright to the right place of Worship.
Teniola: But in a situation whereby you are a new convert, how do you know the right place to worship?
Mrs Ajogbeje: Your thirst. What you want will determine where you will worship. People come to Christ for different reasons. Some truly surrender their lives for who God is while some for what they want. Some for the Spectacular (Signs and Wonders) and some for the Supernatural. For Spectacular, some go where it is happening while those for the latter (Supernatural) go for where the Word of God is potent.
Teniola : Thank you for that explanation.
Teniola: How/In what way can the gathering of the brethren be a wrong place for you?
Mrs Ajogbeje: If the gathering is not in line with the Scripture (The Word of God). Amos 3:3 says, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” As believers (Brethren), you are expected to be guided by the Word of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. Your conviction determines who you associate with.
Teniola: Often people believe prayers can be answered anywhere and you don’t necessarily have to go to church before your prayer could be answered. In this context, why is the gathering of the brethren important?
Mrs Ajogbeje: God is everywhere. He answers prayer as long as you are in good relationship with Him, not necessarily where you pray. Gathering together of the brethren is important because Iron Sharpeneth iron (Proverbs 27 vs17).
Other importance is in Unity. Unity brings about blessing. One shall chase a thousand and two ten thousands. How much more many people together (Joshua 23 vs 10).
Teniola: How do you choose what Christian gathering you should be part of and which you should not partake in?
Mrs Ajogbeje: There are a lot of Christian gathering which are not for Christ but to know which is which because Satan sometimes disguise as angel of light so we need the Spirit of Discernment.
Philippians 1: 9-10 says, “And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;”
Teniola: What if you don’t have the spirit of discernment, how else can you be guided?
Mrs Ajogbeje: Knowledge of the word of God will open your eyes of understanding and know where to be or not to be. Psalm 119:105. THE WORD.
Teniola: I love this, very clear.
Mrs Ajogbeje: All thanks to God.
Teniola: What do you think about churches who invites comedians to perform?
Mrs Ajogbeje: Hmmm…. I support Drama in line with the Scripture i.e acting Bible Characters for corrective measure but bringing Comedians to Church to jest about the Word, Ministers etc is not needed. My opinion. The word of God is not for jokes.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” – Hebrews 4:12.
Teniola: Hmmm. Thank you Ma.😊What can you regard to be as the doctrine of the church?
- The Trinity: God is one
- The Person of Jesus Christ: Jesus is the son of God.
- The Second Coming: Jesus Christ is coming bodily to earth to rule and judge.
- Salvation: It is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
- The Scripture: It is entirely inerrant and sufficient for all Christian life. – Matthew 5 – 7.
Church Doctrine should be based on Christ teaching which is Love based. In one word “Christ Doctrine” as practiced by the Apostles
Teniola: I appreciate you for this. How can you differentiate between doctrine and religious lifestyle? Most people have actually misplaced priorities and flow with anything.
Mrs Ajogbeje: Religion is a belief while doctrine is the teaching of the principle of that belief. Religious lifestyle is based on law of dos and don’ts. The lifestyle of believer should be patterned after 1 Corinthians 13 – 1-8 & Philippians 4:8.
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”.
Teniola: Great insight, God bless you.
Teniola: You mentioned Hebrews 10 vs 25, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching”. Can you enlighten us on what this passage really mean?
Mrs Ajogbeje: Verse 24 spoke about loving one another and we should not excuse ourselves in any gathering of believers where good works and love is expected to be in place not necessarily Church. Every gathering of brethren is for sharing God’s love. We should not for any reason neglect fellowshipping with others.
Teniola: We have come to the end of this amazing interview. I want to appreciate you for your time and for answering each question carefully, on behalf of Peculiar ministers we want to say thank you for your insight. God bless you Ma’am.
Mrs Ajogbeje: I believe you are blessed? Thanks for the Grace extended to me, Nice conversation with you.
