This article is a continuation of “God speaks – His Word, Dreams and Vision”. Here, we will consider how God speaks to people through voices and an inward witness.
God speaks to us by a still small voice. In 1 Kings 19:21, God spoke to Elijah by a still small voice. This should tell you that you do not need to be a talkative so as to know when God speaks to you. The voice could be as gentle as what you can think of. It could just come as an idea and you wonder how the idea came to you; it could be that you just immediately got enlighten on a Bible verse. You could hear a still small voice telling you this is the way. As a child of God, you will be able to differentiate the voice of God from that of your mind and the devil. That is why Proverbs 14:12 and Proverbs 16:25 warns that,
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death”.
Also, the voice of God could be audible when He speaks to you. A voice as clear as you turning to see who just called out to you. In the garden of Eden, this was the way God spoke to Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:10). This was the experience Samuel had in 1 Samuel chapter 3. He ran to Eli because the voice was so audible. After Eli guided Samuel on what to say back to God, Samuel received insights on matters that Eli had to ask him of it.
Moses was one of the people on earth that had a conversation with God mouth to mouth as Numbers 12:8 says,
“With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”
God speaking mouth to mouth audibly is a higher level of communication with God as mentioned two verses before the above verse (Numbers 12:6). The realm of conversing with God mouth to mouth can only be when you have an understanding that you are a god (John 10:34). What I am saying here is this. God converses with god, spirit communes with spirit. Moses had gotten to walk with God from knowing His acts to His ways (Psalm 103:7), that God had to make Moses understand that He (God) had made him (Moses) a god. Exodus 7:1 say,
“And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet”.
Beloved, it is only by the Spirit of God we can compare spiritual things with spiritual things (1 Corinthians 2:12 – 13), thus, walking in the spirit (Galatians 5:25) makes you access God because He is a spirit. Spirit communes with spirit; just as John 4:24 says,
“God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth”.
Do you sometimes get a warning from within you when you think or engage in sin? Is there a witness within you that pricks you to repentance after an evil act? That is God speaking to you from within through an inward witness. This inner witness is your conscience. Romans 9:1 says,
“I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost”
If your conscience does not prick you anymore, it means you no longer hide the word of God in your heart. Romans 2:15 says,
“Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and [their] thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)”
