A race is a journey, a progressive movement towards a goal. As a progressive movement, a race is set before you with a prize at heart to be obtained. 1 Corinthians 9:24 says,
“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.”
Everyone on earth is running a race. It could be political, educational, social, and marital among others. Among all, the race that is worth running is the Heavenly race. It is the race that gives direction to every other kind of race. It is quite saddening that most people run the heavenly race lackadaisically while others do not even engage in this race. The heavenly race is the race that everyone on earth is a part of – no one is exempted, this is because everyone will be judged by God according to their works at the end of time (Romans 14:10). What then are we to obtain in this heavenly race?
The prize in the heavenly race is God. Yes, God the maker of the heavens and the earth. Just take a moment and think about it; if you have God, then you have all because the earth is His and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24:1). When your race is God, you know your purpose for existence. You no longer live your life the way the days come but the day comes the way you live your life. Jeremiah’s race was God and he found out His purpose from God. God knows why he created Jeremiah, just as He has a reason for your existence. God said to Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:5,
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Don’t say to yourself, I was born out of wedlock, I am an error. There are no mistakes in the place of God. If you make God your race, He will tell you great and mighty things you know not of (Jeremiah 33:3).
The bible tells us to seek, that we shall find (Matthew 7:7), but in the previous chapter God told us what to seek for. Matthew 6:33 says,
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”.
Making God your race makes you always seek Him in all things which will make God give you all things. Seeking God first in all things will make God show you the easiest way to live your life, even the power to make wealth, so that you don’t need to toil and toil before you flourish in prosperity. Deuteronomy 8:18 says,
“But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day”.
There are hidden riches of secret places that can only be accessed by God which He gives to those that makes Him their race (Isaiah 45:3).
Apart from our purpose for existence, there is God’s purpose for man from creation. This is to have dominion over all the works of His hands (Genesis 1:26). For this reason, we carry the same nature of God as gods through the breathe of life in us. Jesus in the flesh also reminded us that we are gods in John 10:34,
“Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?”
Man lost that dominion when Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating the fruit of the tree of good and evil (Genesis 3). Sickness and diseases are not in the agenda for man by God because God wishes that we have good health (3 John 2). But when you make God your race, you can reclaim you authority, your dominion.
Romans 5:18 says,
“Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.”
Making your race God brings salvation. Your sins are washed away and you become a new person (2 Corinthians 5:17). The ultimate reason to make your race God is to reign with Him in heaven. That’s why it is a heavenly race. Jesus will return for a church – people – who are holy, without spot or blemish. Ephesians 5:27 says,
“That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”
If you make your race in life God, all your decisions will be based on His standard which is the word of God. You will not run into errors because God himself will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5).
At the end of your race on earth, will you be able to declare what Paul declared as written in 2 Timothy 4:7,
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:”
