This article is a continuation of “How to Grow Spiritually” as a guide on the steps to spiritual growth. Your spiritual growth is often as a result of what you feed on. An individual’s growth spiritually is essential to the body of Christ. This is why the Holy Spirit is given to every believer so that we can all grow to function in the capacity God has allocated for us to function in (1 Corinthians 12:7). Your growth is an answer to someone’s prayer. Someone is waiting on your growth.
Your growth shows obedience to God’s instruction (Romans 12:2). After salvation comes sanctification and you become a holy and acceptable sacrifice which can only be preserved by daily fellowship with God (Romans 12:1-2). Daily fellowship with God shows intentionality to grow. So how do you grow?
Spiritual growth has been summarized in Matthew 7:7 which says,
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you”
ASK, SEEK, KNOCK
Ask: To ask means to make an enquiry about something. When you ask about something, it shows that the matter in question has captured your attention and you would like to know more about it. To ask about something means to get more information about it so when there is intentionality about growth, questions begin to arise.
After getting the necessary information about the subject, it is then decided if the matter is to be taken to the next stage or just end at the information gotten.
Seek: This is the action taken after asking. To seek means to ask then take actions. You seek for something so as to find it. You seek for growth by putting the information gathered into place. As you begin to take actions, you try out the information you have gathered concerning the issue. This makes you put in actions till you find the desired results.
You don’t stop because you are not getting result. Your intention to grow will be the driving force to make you put in more in seeking.
Knock: To knock means to make a noise continuously until a desirable result is gotten. When you begin to put the instructions and guides received as a result of asking and seeking into practice, spiritual growth will be evident. Note that the result will not be evident immediately. There is a need to abide. You need to keep pressing in.
You need to be persistent. Get God’s attention, let Him see how thirsty and determined you are to know Him (Matthew 5:6). Your persistence should be the one to cause the continuous “noise”. Keep knocking till the door is open; till you enter into His place of rest and find peace.
Spiritual growth cannot be achieved when it is not with a clear intention. You grow from a place of purpose. The purpose of your growth will determine if you will indeed grow or not.
To grow, you need to spend a lot of time with God. This is a sum total of reading and meditating on His Word (Joshua 1:8); spending time in the place of prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17; Jude 1:20); woshipping God (Colossians 3:16).
The place of growth is a place of patience and a place where purpose is birthed. Walk in these steps to spiritual growth.
