Your Rod of God

An encounter with God can cause a transformation in the way you see and understand things. This was very evident in the life of Moses concerning what he held in his hands. In Exodus 4:2, when God equipped Moses for the assignment ahead, God asked him “what [is] that in thine hand? And he said, A rod”. To Moses, he was just holding a rod but the encounter with God made that same rod be seen and used as “the rod of God” by Moses (Exodus 4:20).

The rod of God in the hands of Moses was used to path the Red Sea (Exodus 14:16); lifted during war for victory (Exodus 17:9); smite the rock that gave water to the children of Israel (Exodus 17:5) among others. How great were the signs and wonders made manifest with it in the hands of Moses. The question now is, what is your rod of God?

Your rod of God is what you use to bring and guide others in the way of the Lord. It is your tool of evangelism and manifesting the power of God. Your rod of God could be your talent. Remember in Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus spoke a parable of the talents. Everyone has been given skills that is very essential in bringing others to Christ. Are you a dancer, singer, artist, designer, or a motivational speaker? You can use your skills to bring souls unto God. Tabitha, which is interpreted as Dorcas, used her skill of making cloth (Acts 9:36,39).

Isaiah 8:18 says,

“Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me [are] for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion”.

Your family is also your rod of God. This may seem strange but note that God gave you the children for signs and wonders. As I mentioned earlier that the rod of God is used to manifest God, your household is also meant to manifest God. Romans 8:19 says, “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God”. That was why Philip’s daughters did prophecy (Acts 21:9).

Lastly, you can be a rod of God. Your life is in your hands by your actions and inaction. As an individual who is on the side of God, you definitely carry the nature of God which also makes you a god (Psalm 82:6; John 10:34). The rod of God is used to manifest God, your life can also manifest God with great signs and wonders. For Peter’s shadow to be able to heal people (Acts 5:15-16), it means he is a vessel in the hands of God – a rod of God.

All I have said above can also start with you having an encounter with God. Make your race God. God is very concerned in your skills and talents. If not, He won’t admonish you to be diligent in it so that you can stand before kings and not mean men (Proverbs 22:29).

Have you been saying to yourself, I want to serve God but I don’t know how and where to start? I ask you, what is in thine hand?
